Makayla Imrie, member of Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Hartford, Wis., received a $1,000 LCEF South Wisconsin District Scholarship on Sun., Dec. 15, 2013 in front of her home congregation. Imrie is a freshman at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee.
“LCEF is committed to connecting with and supporting our younger LCMS members. This annual scholarship is just one example,” said LCEF SWD VP Diana Raasch. “It is our prayer that our outstanding LCMS students, like Makayla, will pursue further education and, in time, become impactful, Christian adult leaders in their own churches.”
In her application, Imrie wrote, “The Lutheran Church Extension Fund supports the passions and motivations of individuals and congregations that work to share the message of Jesus Christ with people just like me. … [Lutheran Church Extension Fund] has shown dedication and a drive to keep God’s Word part of the world’s ever-changing mainstream culture, and for that I have a great amount of respect.”
Divine Savior Pastor Douglas Stowe wrote this in Imrie’s letter of recommendation, “She is faithfully in worship and teaches Sunday school every week. In addition, she works … and maintains her academic work. For my part, I think that Makayla is a worthy recipient. She is a faithful Christian, a diligent worker, and a generous volunteer. She is the kind of young lady that makes one feel good about the future of the church… Thank you in advance for considering Makayla and thank you [LCEF] for supporting the aspirations of all sorts of young Christians.”
