On Jan. 13, 2013 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham, Minn., Whitney Carow received her 2012 $1,000 LCEF Scholarship award. Whitney is currently attending the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and plans to pursue an optometry doctoral program.
Presenter and LCEF Minnesota North District Vice President George Miller said, “Whitney is well known in her congregation; everyone speaks very highly of her and her family. It was a sincere pleasure to meet Whitney and have the opportunity to present this scholarship.”
In Carow’s application she wrote, “In my role as Campus Ministry Coordinator for my Lutheran Student Fellowship chapter, I often refer to myself as the logistics person- meaning, I spread the word, answer questions, and provide the necessary supplies for our activities and meetings. Basically, I make sure the students desiring a close relationship with their Savior and fellow Christians have the tools they need to serve their Lord and others. I see an enormous parallel between my role as Campus Ministry Coordinator and LCEF. Although both of us are devoted Christians dedicated to our faith, our role is one of the background. We may not be the face of the church, but we enable the church to extend its arms to its members and beyond.”
In a letter of recommendation for Whitney, Rev. Carl Noble wrote, “Whitney is a marvelous young woman who excels not only in academics but also in her life of Faith. Her faith in Jesus Christ is central to Whitney and all who know her clearly sees an active faith in her life. . . . She will use the scholarship to study and become a very productive citizen of our country after her graduation. She is centered on doing her best in her college studies and will prove to be an exceptional professional after her graduation.”
