Congratulations Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Minn., our first $1,000 Minnesota South District Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) Outreach Event Grant winner of 2014! Beautiful Savior’s outreach project is constructing a community garden. The garden’s mission is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ by providing a beautiful and productive garden space where people of all ethnic groups can come together to serve each other, form friendships, and grow nutritious food.
In the application Beautiful Savior member, Darvin Kaelberer, writes, “Committed to connecting with others in the name of Jesus, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church reaches out to members and neighbors, with opportunities to experience God’s story. Immigrant people groups are finding a new home in Minnesota and it is no longer necessary to travel across continents to reach those who have never heard of a loving God. Building community enables us to minister to our newest neighbors. Building friendships provides a fertile opportunity to share God’s love.
Beautiful Savior is blessed to share with our neighbors. We have the tools for building community around a common purpose, and caring for each other in Jesus name. In collaboration with Okuapemman of USA and Canada (OKUSACA), a Ghanaian ethnic association, Beautiful Savior is planting a garden to serve our new friends. Our mutual goals strengthen this community garden opportunity and we pray our partnership serves as a model for bringing people together.
• Beautiful Savior will use a quarter of the garden for a Giving Garden. We will grow produce for a local social service organization and our own Acts II ministry.
• Our immigrant friends have traditionally grown their own food. With their move to the United States, garden space is often unavailable. OKUSACA will use their quarter of the garden for families to grow delicious, fresh vegetables. They will reach out with an invitation to their churches, friends and others in the African community to join them.
• The remaining half of the garden will be divided into rental plots for individuals and families. The rental plots will be available to neighbors, and Beautiful Savior members. We are intentionally reaching out to immigrants by publicizing to ethnic organizations, people serving organizations, and apartment and condominium communities.
We anticipate a bountiful harvest of vegetables and souls.… We ask your prayers for God’s hand in our shared work of reaching the lost for His kingdom.”
LCEF is a nonprofit ministry of the Church; therefore, fiscal year end operating results are put right back into mission and ministry. LCEF is blessed by strong investors and faithful borrowers. It’s a partnership that’s working, thus we have these grant funds available to our Minnesota South District - Lutheran Church Missouri Synod organizations. Continue to watch our newsfeed and Facebook for the announcement of our remaining winners this month. LCEF Outreach Event Grants are available to Minnesota South District LCMS organizations. The application is posted annually on our website lcefuppermidwest.org each fall.
