Congratulations Cole Schuessler! Cole is the second of four 2015 Minnesota South (MNS) District Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) $1,000 Scholarship award winners.

Cole is a member of Woodbury Lutheran Church, Woodbury, Minnesota and a senior at Concordia Academy High School, Roseville, Minnesota. He plans on attending Concordia University – St. Paul in the fall.

“Cole’s desire to put his faith into action, especially through serving, makes him a standout young man…His willingness to work with the disabled [on mission trips] and with new, younger students at school works against the stereotype of a self-centered teenager,” wrote Woodbury Lutheran Director of Christian Education Joel Symmank in his letter of recommendation for Cole.

Cole participated in two Woodbury Lutheran Youth Ministry mission trips working with adult campers with special needs. Cole supported these adults so they could enjoy a typical camp experience. He helped his campers with crafts, horseback riding and a experiencing a zip line. At each week-long camp, “Cole and the other students would spend the whole day with their camper assisting during meals, devotion times and the various camp activities. His gentleness and flexibility shined through as he guided his camper all week,” wrote Symmank.

Cole is a Concordia Academy Ambassador who assists prospective and new students as they visit and transition into the school. He played high school soccer, basketball and baseball, and sings in “His People,” Concordia’s elite chorus.

In his application essay, Cole wrote, “LCEF helps startup businesses and ministries in God’s Kingdom. It helps support LCMS workers in good times and bad, providing finances for those walking in God’s path.” LCEF is indeed called to support Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) members, leaders, churches and schools. LCEF is also blessed to have funds available to support our youth as they pursue post-secondary education. It is our prayer that these students are equipped to become strong, Christian leaders as adults.

There will be two additional 2015 MNS District LCEF scholarship winners announced yet this spring, as well as $1,000 scholarships awarded to three more Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) students from the North Wisconsin District.
