Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has been blessed by a wonderful response to their recent capital campaign. As of January 21, 2016, the congregation had raised over $50,000 which was their goal. “The 90/90 campaign (90th anniversary for 90 days) was earmarked to make a single principal payment on our [LCEF] loan,” said Pastor Daniel Czaplewski.
In celebration of the congregation members’ successful stewardship emphasis, Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) South Wisconsin District (SWD) Vice President Diana Raasch accepted the check from leadership on Sunday, January 31, 2016. “It is with great joy and thanksgiving that I was able to witness such good stewardship principles exhibited by the members of Mount Calvary,” said Raasch.
Last fall, Mount Calvary moved forward on three stewardship initiatives intended to provide long-term financial stability and fund expanded ministry in the Sherman Park neighborhood. Read about their neighborhood ministry efforts here.
According to Mount Calvary’s ‘Blessed to Be a Blessing’ January update to members, the 90/90 Campaign celebrated the 90th anniversary of Mount Calvary and lasted 90 days. The funds generated from this campaign became a single principal payment on the loan from their 2008 building addition.
This loan was recently refinanced with LCEF which cut the interest rate almost in half. “Since we are at the front end of this 10-year loan, a principal payment of $1.00 will actually mean about $1.50 in savings over the life of the loan,” according to the report.
“People participated in the 90/90 Campaign as part of the 90th Anniversary Homecoming Celebration and in response to a December mailing. Contributions to this campaign are still being received but, as of this printing (January 2016,) we have received $50,195 which is 100.4%, of our $50,000 goal. This single principal payment will reduce our 10-year loan by a full year and save an additional $25,000.00 over the life of the loan.”
