Emily BartanenIn support of our Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod members and their pursuit of post-secondary education, Lutheran Church Extension Fund of the upper Midwest districts awarded three $1,000 scholarships this year. Our 2011 winners of this new award were Emily Bartanen of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, MI, Ashley Pearson of Messiah Lutheran Church in Lakeville, Minn. and Anna Schield of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Two Harbors, Minn.
Ashley PearsonResponse to this scholarship offering exceeded expectations; LCEF received nearly 70 applications and essays. Notification of the scholarships available were sent to LCMS congregations and LCEF volunteers of the upper Midwest which consists of Iowa Districts East and West, Minnesota North and South, North Dakota and North Wisconsin Districts. The scholarship committee consisted of a representative from each of these districts.
Anna SchieldAnnouncements were sent to congregations and schools in this area early last spring via email. LCEF will again offer scholarships for 2012, if interested in applying, please connect with your local LCEF volunteer or church staff in the late winter/early spring for details. There will be six LCEF upper Midwest district scholarships awarded in 2012. The scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, will be awarded to graduating high school seniors or current full-time post-secondary students at an accredited institution with at least one year of courses remaining. Candidates must also be members of a congregation within the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod districts of the upper Midwest.
