Concordia St. Paul - LCEF Marketing Competition

Concordia St. Paul Student Team Gives Its ‘Pitch’ in Marketing Competition April 20

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (March 15, 2012)—Students from Concordia University, St. Paul, Minn., are participating in the inaugural Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) National Student Marketing Competition. The team of undergraduates—Emily Bryan, Tim Rivers, Stacy Hillmer and Zack Sieber under the guidance of Dr. Nancy L. Harrower, assistant professor of marketing—will compete against three other Concordia University System schools: Concordia University, Irvine, Calif.; Concordia University Chicago, River Forest, Ill.; and Concordia University Texas, Austin.

“Our goal was to develop a competition that provides practical experience, an enhancement to academic work and an opportunity for students to explore careers in ministry-related organizations, such as LCEF,” said Rich Robertson, LCEF president/CEO. “We value the partnerships we have with all of the Concordia universities through their investments, loans and use of services. This exciting new venture will help us all further our respective missions.”

Each school assembled a team of students studying business, marketing or advertising that will act as an agency to research and develop a marketing campaign from beginning to end, with the goal of attracting new and younger investors to LCEF.

Representatives from all of the teams will pitch their campaigns to a judging panel selected by LCEF at The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod International Center in St. Louis April 20. A first- second- and third-place winner will be named and announced that day.

“While we seek to enrich and supplement the educational experience, we acknowledge this also offers us the opportunity for ‘reverse mentoring,’ said Becca Jones, LCEF senior vice president of marketing. “We expect to use the students’ fresh ideas and unique perspectives in future efforts to raise awareness of our organizations’ mission: to serve the church and bring more people the healing power of God’s mercy and love.”
